Jodie Meeks Ends Up In Milwaukee

It took a while, but Jodie Meeks was finally selected as the second round (41st overall) pick for the Milwaukee Bucks.  The last Kentucky player to be selected by the Bucks was Keith Bogans as the 43rd overall pick in 2003.

Jodie Meeks should be a good fit for the Milwaukee Bucks barring any trades, which never happens in the NBA right?

Jodie Meeks to Remain in the NBA Draft

John Calapari announced today that Jodie Meeks has decided to stay in the NBA draft and will not be returning to the Kentucky Wildcats next season.  I must say, it was a decision that I didn’t see coming, but I wish him well in his endeavors.  I believe that he will be taken in the draft between the 31st and the 45th picks, but if his workouts went well, he could be quite higher.

Jodie Meeks would have been a key player with the Wildcats next season, but they are definitely not hurting without him.  With the top recruits coming in, Kentucky should be in the top 25 all season and will be going for a run in the NCAA tournament.  Once again, wish Jodie would have decided to stay, but I can understand his reason for leaving.  We all hope that he has a successful career in the NBA and I know I will be watching him as much as possible.

Say Goodbye to 2 More Basketball Players (Pilgrim and Galloway)

It is no surprise that the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball team needed to slim it’s roster before the season starts.  That roster was slimmed last week when it was announced that Matt Pilgrim and Kevin Galloway would be transferring from UK.

This should squash the scholarship issues that the Wildcats were facing.  Now that the roster is almost complete, the missing piece is Jodie Meeks’ decision on whether to stay in the NBA draft or not.  He will have to make that decision by Monday night as that is the deadline for withdrawing from the draft.

Good luck to Matt Pilgrim and Kevin Galloway.  Wish we could have seen Pilgrim get to play and will miss Galloway on the court.  We hope both guys have prosperous careers wherever their path takes them.

Landon Slone is Looking to Transfer from UK

Landon Slone is reportedly looking to transfer from the University of Kentucky.

During the Billy Gillispie era, there was talk of a possible scholarship offer for Slone in his Sophomore year, but that is looking dim now as Kentucky has too many players as it is.  A meeting with an assistant coach has led Slone to believe that he needs to look elsewhere if he wants to continue his basketball career.

Landon Slone is a Kentucky native and states that he loves to wear the Kentucky uniform, but who can blame the guy if he transfers, especially since it is probably being encouraged by the coaching staff.  Sure, he could stay at UK which is his dream, but if he loves basketball and I’m sure he does, then he will want to continue his basketball career somewhere where he is wanted and could see playing time.

If Slone does go, I want to be the first to wish him well and I hope that he finds the right fit for him.

Kentucky Slims Basketball Roster, 3 Players are Leaving

The University of Kentucky announced today, that 3 of it’s basketball players will not return next season.  The 3 players are A.J. Stewart, Donald Williams, and Jared Carter.

A.J. Stewart  expects to transfer to a college where he can get more playing time.  If he stayed at UK, with all the new recruits coming in, he probably wouldn’t have seen any to very little playing time during the upcoming season.

Donald Williams expects to transfer as well.  He was a freshman last season and did not see any playing time as he sat out the entire season.  He cites his time at Kentucky as being a great experience.

Jared Carter, a Kentucky native, could have been eligible for a 5th year since he sat out the majority of the 2006-2007 season due to a shoulder injury, but decided against it.  He is looking forward to moving on and he is anxious to see what awaits.

While this slims the roster quite a bit, expect to see a couple of more players on their way out the door before it is all said and done.  The Kentucky Wildcats basketball team is still over it’s scholarship limit and will need to reduce the roster further in order to meet regulations.
