Kentucky Did Not Make 2009 NCAA Tournament, NIT Bound?

For the first time in 18 years, the Kentucky Wildcats found themselves on the outside looking in when it came to the 2009 NCAA Tournament bids.  Kentucky wasn’t really even talked about as a bubble team so it should be no surprise that they didn’t make it to the tournament.  The SEC only had 3 basketball teams make it to the NCAA Tourney.  They would have only had 2 teams if Mississippi St. had not won the SEC Tournament.  The other 2 SEC teams making the tournament were the LSU Tigers and Tennessee Volunteers.

The Kentucky Wildcats will have to start looking for the NIT to call.  Kentucky may be able to pull out a number one seed in the NIT, but look for some very good competition that was left out of the field of 65.  Teams such as: Auburn, Creighton, Florida, Penn State, South Carolina, San Diego State and Saint Mary’s, among others will be in the NIT if they accept the invitations.
